LA’s shiniest new rock’n’roll quartet will be bringing their energetic live show to Berlin for one night only – if you’re a fan of being tucked up in bed by 9:30pm with a mug of hot cocoa, this probably isn’t the show for you.
Acting as more of an explosion of sound and colour than your typical guitar-based music band™, Death Valley Girls are sure to deliver a whirlwind of a performance. Fresh off the heel’s of 2016’s Glow in the Dark, their latest release Darkness Rains is a delicious mess: it’s articulate and intelligent, with perceptive lyrics and fiery melodies which you’re guaranteed to be humming for weeks.
Battling guitar lines and punchy vocals are staples of their sound, and this latest record builds on their signature style. It holds onto their roots, but isn’t afraid to experiment with the new and unexplored – naturally, this results in an intriguing record full of grit and gut and notable self-awareness.
It’s normal to try and pigeonhole bands into specific genres, but that’s something of a struggle with this group. Whilst their sound is predominantly good old fashioned rock’n’roll, there’s a smattering of punk and a dash of post-hardcore thrown in for good measure.
The charmingly grungy setting of Skalitzer Straβe’s Monarch bar couldn’t be more fitting: there’s an eclectic charisma to this gem of a hideaway. It’s sure to be an eyebrow-raising evening, and you’d be something of a fool to miss it.
