We are excited to announce that Lift-Off Film Festival is returning to Berlin from the 7th – 9th February at the Union Filmtheater, a vibrant hub of German indie cinema and culture.
Berlin will be the launchpad for this year’s global series of festivals which spans 11 cities worldwide in one of the largest showcases for indie filmmaking talent in the world.
Everyone is a film critic
Now in its ninth season, Berlin Lift-Off will once again bring the best in international award-winning shorts and features to our silver screens. The quirky part about Lift Off is that you get to play the film critic. At the end of each feature, the audience fills out a feedback form which is shared with the filmmakers to help with their creative process.
Ever a champion of grassroots filmmaking, the festival curates the best in underground talent from the independent film community, and curious cinéastes will be in for a rare treat this year.
Audiences will be treated to an eclectic range of films from diverse filmmakers, each capturing stories from their own unique experiences. We will be reunited with the star of last year’s Lift-Off Awards, Paul Philipp, 8-time nominated and winner of Best Director and Best Actor, with his latest supernatural drama set in Cold War East Germany, ‘ The Peculiar Abilities of Mr Mahler’, which will screen as part of the Local Filmmakers Showcase on Friday 9th at 8:45pm.
Another highlight of this year’s programme will be German feature Die Tochter – The Dark Blue Girl (dir. Mascha Schilinski) which will screen on Friday 9th at 6:45 pm. This dramatic heart wrencher tells the story of ex-couple Jimmy and Hannah, who compete for the love of their daughter Luca when the family is forced together after they finally find a buyer for their holiday home.
The festival includes two Shorts Programmes and three Features, culminating with a Local Filmmakers Showcase and Networking Party on February 9th.
