Scotland’s Berlin-based indie rockers Milwalkie is centred around brother duo Matt and Steve Morris who have played in various bands for over a decade, heavily touring the UK indie circuit before relocating to Berlin. They’re in Antje Oeklesund this Saturday, write to win at indieberlin.de for a pair of tickets to see the gig!
The brothers spent the cold spring months of 2014 recording their newest LP ‘Adjustments’. It is said to be their most honest and committed effort to date. Stripping things back to a strictly guitar-based set up with very little sampling or patches, the brothers felt a strong desire to have the focus heavily on song writing, creating texture and harnessing that unmistakable raw energy that can only come from a live guitar band. Spending weeks recording everything between their studios in Ostkreuz and Mitte, Milwalkie have captured a sense of Berlin’s electricity and it serves as the beating heart of the all. They’ll be playing songs from the album as well as older gems.
The other band of the evening, Mother of the Unicorn is another alternative indie band based in Berlin. Having started out in London as an outlet for singer Joe Kelly’s production work the group developed into a band in Berlin out of the desire to perform live. Having released several EPs online the group is due to release a debut album early next year. Their live show is a mixture of melancholic vocal melodies, echoey guitars, choppy beats and fuzzy keyboards.
