indieberlin Review - Rebekka Karijord and Small Feet in Privatclub
Article published on Sat May 25, 2013 by indieberlin.de
Rebekka Karijord with Small Feet had the audience in the palm of her hand during her performance at PRIVATCLUB this evening, and rightly so. With witty quips about her growing up amidst 'strong Scandinavian women' and her Ziggy Stardust-esque outfit, she showed she's not just a huge voice that would rival Florence Welch's – she's got masses of charisma and a larger-than-life personality to boot.>>follow the article
indieberlin Review - Empire Escape in Monarch
Article published on Fri May 24, 2013 by indieberlin.de
Empire Escape embarked on their first mini tour this week, playing the holy East German trinity of Berlin, Dresden and Leipzig and kicked it all off in Kreuzberg's little Kotti hideaway Monarch this Wednesday.
They were joined by guests Children, a trio who played twee indie electro pop with a flute for extra quirkiness.
It being one of their first gigs, I hadn't heard much about new wave post-punkers Empire Escape before, but I took to them almost instantly when they started playing. I'd noticed some of them walking around before the show, hanging out with their friends and being very, very down to earth – which is definitely to their credit.>>follow the article
Coming up // CocoRosie at Huxleys Neue Welt
Article published on Fri May 24, 2013 by Eden
Wow! If you have managed to get tickets to this gig you will no doubt be in for a magical night. Formed in 2003 by sisters Bianca and Sierra, CocoRosie have since toured pretty much the entire globe and enamored audiences everywhere with their other-worldy look and sound. Poetic and artistic, yet, cutting edge and raw, the pair effortlessly weave elements of pop, folk, hip hop, blues, opera, into beautiful pop songs, which often deal with intensely dark subject matter.>>follow the article
Ghost Capsules in Bi Nuu on the 1st June - 2x2 tickets to win
Article published on Thu May 23, 2013 by indieberlin.de
Electro quartet Ghost Capsules can trace their beginnings back to a Bomb The Bass gig in Vienna. Here it was that Tim Simenon, touring the 'Back To Light' album, met his support band that featured drummer Roman Lugmayr and keyboard player Georg Lichtenauer. The three hit it off, so much so that Tim relocated from Amsterdam to the Austrian capital. Here the missing piece for the Ghost Capsules jigsaw was found in singer Laura Gomez, who Tim had booked to play at one of his club nights. Proof positive that there's no business as sociable as music.>>follow the article
Current Swell is riding a wave that keeps on getting bigger - live in Comet on 11.6 and we've got tickets
Article published on Wed May 22, 2013 by indieberlin.de
The members of Current Swell no longer live together under a single roof — as they did years ago, when the group first came together as a unit — but the bond between the four friends is stronger than ever.
Touring the world for the better part of five years, from Brazil to Australia, often has that effect.
Current Swell’s years of experience on the road can be heard — and felt — in the nooks and crannies of Long Time Ago, the new full-length from this rootsy Victoria, B.C. quartet. The record shifts between upbeat folk (the title track, Long Time Ago) and singalong-ready roots rock (the first single, Too Cold) with a fluidity and ease that could only come from continual touring.>>follow the article

indieberlin favourites Lonski and Classen poke their two-pronged head up to give Coldplay's Don't Panic a very LuC-ish treatment. Can this mean we're looking at a covers album from the deadly duo? Only time will tell....

indieberlin talks to: Mac DeMarco
Article published on Tue May 14, 2013 by Eden
In the past year Mac DeMarco and his band have become some of the most beloved artists to come of out Canada. His smooth lyrics and saucy on stage presence has made girls (and boys) swoon, while his and his goofy personality has done nothing but improve his popularity. Other than that, he has an awesome band who are equally as hilarious and talented, and they have been touring almost solid since last year. His most recent album (Mac DeMarco 2) has been on almost every music blog from here to Vancouver, yet all this attention hasn't gone to his head. During his recent performance at Privatclub he was accompanied by Canadian crooner Sean Nicolas Savage, and featured an on-stage ballot dedicated to his girlfriend that made my heart melt. I caught up with him to chat about his experiences on tour, favourite artists and lady watching..>>follow the article
